DEAR DALE: Advice Column

My mom died last year. This Mother’s Day feels really sad. How do I handle this day when I still miss her so much?

I’m sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is tough, but on Mother’s Day, it can feel like a punch in the gut.

Well, you can always do what I do on Father’s Day – just eat a whole bunch of ice cream and watch Netflix all day. Or if you want to be more productive, you can try talking to a therapist or grief counselor to work through your feelings. But honestly, if all you want to do is stay in bed and cry, that’s okay too. Just remember, your mom wouldn’t want you to be sad on Mother’s Day – she’d want you to be out there living your best life, eating ice cream and watching Netflix.

And if all else fails, just remember that your mom is always with you in spirit, even if she can’t be with you in person to tell you to clean your room.
